In this blog post, we dive into the heart warming story of a 10-year-old child who faced an anterior cross bite—a condition where their lower front teeth overlapped the upper front teeth.

With early intervention and a method known as ‘2×4’ braces, we were able to guide this young smile on its path to dental health and happiness.

An anterior cross bite is a dental condition where the lower front teeth are positioned in front of the upper front teeth when the jaws come together.

Early diagnosis and treatment of anterior crossbite cases are recommended to prevent tooth wear, anterior tooth fractures, gum problems, and temporomandibular joint disorders and to achieve a better functional occlusion and esthetics.

Left untreated, this condition can hinder the normal growth of the upper jaw. As time passes, the lower jaw may continue to grow, resulting in a true Class III malocclusion, which can be more complex to treat.

Finally early of this year, we decided to intervene the condition to correct it. The journey began in January and we employed the ‘2×4’ method to correct the condition.

The ‘2×4’ method involves the use of braces on permanent teeth to create the necessary space and alignment for the teeth to settle into their correct positions. The goal was to guide the upper jaw to grow properly and prevent further complications, such as a Class III malocclusion.

Each month, we see improvement.

By October, we had achieved a remarkable transformation. The young patient’s smile was no longer burdened by an anterior cross bite, and the upper jaw was on a healthy growth trajectory. This early intervention not only corrected a dental issue but also potentially saved our young patient from a more complex surgical procedure in the future.
